Give Wildlife a Home
Provide a home for the insects in your garden by installing a wildlife habitat! Wildlife World, a new range of bug boxes made from durable bamboo and timber - designed to provide the perfect nesting space for your garden friends.
Love your lawn
There is no better time than spring to give your lawn a little love! Phil, our lawn care expert, recommends a few simple ground rules to transform your compacted grass into a luscious lawn that will make others green with envy!
Tong's Top 5 Tips to
Step 1 - Aerating
Aeration allows air, water and nutrients to penetrate the roots and encourage strong growth. Target any brown patches, built-up grass or lawn thatch and make way for a beautiful lawn with this quick three-step to aeration!
Plant your aerator or garden fork into the ground to a depth of about 6cm. Simply push into your lawn to release the soil from the ground and repeat at 30cm intervals in the affected area.
Spread lawn sand over your lawn focusing on the areas you've spiked.
Brush lawn sand into the holes as this will further help with drainage and moss prevention.
Step 2 - Scarifying
Your lawn shouldn't have to compete with moss and weeds for vital nutrients and soil moisture!
Scarifying your lawn will help alleviate the build-up of thatch layers in the lawn, including debris, dead grass and moss.
Apply a moss control product such as AfterCut All-In-One Lawn Feed, Weed & Moss Killer to help eradicate any unwanted materials before raking off the debris.
Small patches of weeds can be dealt with effectively by using Resolva Lawn Weedkiller, or by removing by hand.
Step 3 - Feeding
Giving your lawn a good feed with lawn fertiliser such as Aftercut All-in-One Lawn Feed, Weed and Moss Killer makes the grass greener, grow thicker and increase its strength. This makes it more robust and better equipped to compete with weeds, moss and weather-related stresses.
It's best to apply this when rain is forecast or, if there is no rain due, then simply water in within 24 hours after application.
Step 4 - Overseeding
Over-seeding a lawn is one of the quickest, easiest and cheapest ways to rejuvenate and thicken grass. Gro-Sure Fast Acting Lawn Seed is great to help increase the density of your grass and will rapidly improve the lawn's appearance.
Step 5 - Mowing
If your lawn is in good shape, and you haven't already, then choose a dry day for your first mow of the season and have the blade on a high setting. Remember not to mow your lawn too short as this will weaken the grass and will encourage weeds and moss to become established.
