Katie Rushworth's Show Garden is now open
It was lovely to welcome so many visitors to Tong for the opening of Katie Rushworth’s inspirational show garden recently.
Katie, known to many as the ITV Love Your Garden co-presenter, officially opened the show garden by cutting the ribbon with some garden shears, in front of a large crowd.
Among the audience was Lucy Cullimore from Huddersfield who said: “I always watch Katie on ITV’s Love Your Garden, she’s really natural with loads of good ideas to try at home. Her show garden is beautiful, it’s really inspiring and makes me think about the zones I want to create in my garden. I especially love the planted wall, it’s a real focal point and looks great.”
Katie’s 5.4 x 4.7m garden features a selection of Yorkshire grown plants, a water feature, specimen planting and areas to relax in, entertain children and encourage wildlife.
Katie is working with us on a year-long series of projects and is as delighted as we are with the garden: “I really champion local, independently-owned garden centres and I’m really proud to be working with such a great team at Tong. Everyone is always so helpful and knowledgeable, it’s been a pleasure to work alongside them to bring this garden to life.
“My show garden is about creating something accessible for people to replicate, and so I have included solutions for problems that we all encounter in our gardens, such as an area of shade planted to look good despite the lack of sunshine. I’m always asked about low-maintenance plants that look good all year round, so my mixed border is planted to deliver texture, form and colour throughout the seasons.”
Look out for the ‘how to’ leaflets that we have produced to help people to recreate Katie’s simple ideas at home and don’t forget that Katie will be giving a gardening masterclass and book signing on Friday, 23rd June. Tickets include free tea and cake on arrival and cost £12, or £20 to include a signed copy of Katie’s book, Plants, beds and borders, and are available by following this link.
